The Death of a Good Story

The thing about written fiction is there will always be bad books mixed in with the good because it is easier to get published than people think. And really, everything comes down to who you know.

Look at that Eragon kid, and that story sucked.

We like to think that it is harder to get a screenplay optioned or turned into a film, and that is true to some extent, but there are still factors of who you know, and also, unfortunately, the issue of timing.

Those of us with a brain hate Stephanie Meyer for the blight she has unleashed upon the world in the form of “Twilight”.

It is a fad phenomenon mediocre vampire story with poor writing, dull characters, predictable plot, emotionally abusive and unhealthy relationships as an example to young people, and frankly downright cheesy and awful storytelling.

But it sells. Oh how it sells.

Making It Work At Comic Con


Comic Con is every geek’s dream. A dream this geek plans to fulfill next year for Comic Con 2011 with as many friends as I can wrangle together.

For those of you readers who may not know much about Comic Con it is the yearly get together for all things geek.

Yes comics, but so much more than just that. We’re talking every movie premier and preview that has anything geek related as part of the story, every comic and TV show, you name it.

Idiocracy


In 2006 a comedy came out called “Idiocracy” staring Luke Wilson. It was about the decline in human intelligence as the natural way of evolution until in the future the world would be nothing but a bunch of hicks and morons. The movie is rather funny, my husband and I love it, but the sad thing is how possible the movie’s scenario actually seems.

The way society is heading now we really are doomed to one day have our own Idiocracy.
